Cervical Epidurals Overview

Brian K. Flanagan, MD, gives an overview of cervical epidurals and how he uses a complete catheter-based technique. Entry points into the cervical spine are small and flat, so he recommends entering between the T2 and T3 vertebrae in the ventral-lateral space at a shallow angle. A blunt-edged needle is recommended to avoid hitting the dura. Dr. Flanagan discusses needle placement as the most important thing to avoid harm to the patient. X-ray images can be used to help visualize the spine.
