Intradiscal BMAC for Disc Regeneration
Dr. Roger Hartl discusses his work with intradiscal bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) for disc regeneration. He highlights the limitations of surgery for disc degeneration and herniation and presents basic science tissue engineering strategies for total disc replacements in animals and biotissue engineering for disc regeneration. He describes a clinical study where autologous BMAC cells were injected into the disc to improve pain scores in patients with low back pain from disc degeneration. He emphasizes non-invasive injection methods and presents promising preliminary results with future studies including innovative imaging and annular repair.
