Looking towards stakeholders and providers is also important if an LCD is needed. Systematic approaches are also critical, especially when it comes to study design. Pain specialist physicians face many obstacles such as preauthorization. Lack of coverage for Medicare patients and dual eligibility also pose a problem for practicing doctors. Dr. Benyamin believes transparency by insurance companies is critical in resolving some of these issues. Advocacy to raise awareness about these issues is also important.
