Dr. Kenneth Chapman discusses percutaneous vertebral augmentation at the 24th Annual Gabor Racz Pain Conference and Workshop. The cost of vertebral fractures is high, particularly for women with osteoporosis. However, there are procedures that may be able to help treat the pain of vertebral compression fractures. Surgical vertebral augmentation may help stabilize these fractures and prevent micromovements. Decisions to treat with vertebral augmentation takes a multidisciplinary team, and patients and their families need to be properly informed about the very technical procedure.
