    Douglas P. Beall, MD

Dr. Douglas P. Beall discusses the cost-effectiveness of intervertebral disc (IVD) therapy for back pain. Dr. Beall begins with a discussion of conventional surgical and non-surgical approaches to back pain. He describes studies focusing on IVD, showing its greater efficacy compared to conventional methods. He compares the costs of conventional surgeries and IVD therapy. Dr. Beall effectively illustrates that IVD therapy is less invasive, more effective, and less costly than other surgeries for back pain.

Dr. Sairam Atluri is interviewed about his experiences in the world of stem cell research. He describes huge differences in patients who undergo stem cell therapy for pain. Stem cell therapy may also be able to help with the opioid epidemic. Dr. Atluri is worried about some of the statements from the FDA, particularly for the use of bone marrow. However, he believes stem cells are the future of pain medicine.

Dr. Buchalter explains the pathology and symptomology of discogenic pain. This includes how to diagnose discogenic pain, differentiating it from impingement syndromes caused from disc herniation. He explains the importance of imaging to accurately assess the damage to the disc, such as CT in conjunction with discography. He talks about the multidisciplinary approach used at his clinic to treat discogenic pain. This includes conservative treatments, such as spinal decompression, and more aggressive approaches including intra-discal radiofrequency ablation and stem cell disc regeneration therapies.
