Dr. Christopher Gharibo discusses refining pain management at the NYSIPP/NJSIPP Symposium. Pain management is becoming a surgical subspeciality, he explains. But he also urges doctors to be as multidisciplinary as possible and to remember all aspects of pain (such as the neurological, psychological, etc.). Dr. Gharibo briefly describes how the nomenclature of this field can even evolve to better reflect modern pain treatment.

Dr. Kenneth Candido gives a presentation on the opioid epidemic and the many ways we can combat it. He puts the opioid crisis into a historical perspective, giving the audience a unique perspective to view this epidemic. He discusses his belief that education about the inevitability of pain in our lives will help combat the opioid crisis. He then talks about utilizing neuromodulation and other alternative therapies at earlier stages to modulate pain may also prove useful.
