Evidence Synthesis for Epidural Injections

Published on September 29, 2022

Dr. Knezevic, MD

Dr. Knezevic discusses the current clinical evidence showing the efficacy of various types of epidural injections. He discusses level one evidence for transforaminal epidural steroid injections and interlaminar epidural injections. He describes level 2 evidence for caudal epidural injections. He discusses the use of local anesthetics alone versus in combination with corticosteroids. Higher-level evidence was shown for spinal stenosis and moderate evidence for axial discogenic pain and post-surgery syndrome.
