Biography

Dr Arun Bhaskar is a leading consultant in pain medicine in London, who holds a special interest in complex pain, including neuropathic pain, cancer pain, visceral and pelvic pain, pain interventions and neuromodulation. He also holds a particular interest in opioid management in complicated cancer pain and opioid dependence and its management in the pain patient population.

Dr Bhaskar is the President-elect of the British Pain Society and has served two terms as an elected member of the Council of the British Pain Society and also chairs the Communications Committee. He is also the Hon. Secretary of the Neuromodulation Society of UK and Ireland and the Chairman of the UK Section, World Institute of Pain. Dr Bhaskar is currently the Co-chair of the Committee for the Cancer Pain Management Guidelines; he is also the Co-chair of the Neuromodulation Guidelines Committee. He does also represents UK as Councillor at the European Pain Federation and is a member of the European Pain Federation Task Force on Cancer Pain Management. Dr Bhaskar is the Co-chair for the OPEN Consensus group for Opioid Analgesic Dependency.

Dr Bhaskar started his consultant career at The Christie in Manchester where he has been involved with several clinical trials in cancer pain and neuropathic pain in cancer, including chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain and developed novel techniques for interventional treatment of pain. He is currently based at the Pain Management Centre, Charing Cross Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Dr Bhaskar is on the faculty and examiner for many courses, including the European Pain School and the World Institute of Pain and regularly mentors colleagues nationally and internationally. He publishes extensively, writes regularly on pain matters and serves as peer reviewer and section editor in several reputable journals.
